Anthony Albanese, the Australian Prime Minister, is stepping back from a referendum on the future role, if any, of the Monarchy in Australia.

Ironically it was the resounding defeat of the referendum last October to reform the Australian constitution to give Australian Aboriginals a "Voice to Parliament", which has unnerved the pro-republican Australian Labour Party.

King Charles lll will visit Australia this year.

The latest poll showed a small majority in Australia favoured retaining the monarchy.
